The beginning of a new year affords a good opportunity to direct our attention to some of the activities planned for the MidTown congregation in the year just ahead. Our annual Ladies’ Day is only one week away now, with sisters Cheryl Ginnings and Angela Patterson scheduled to bring excellent lessons from God’s word for our own ladies, as well as sisters from all around the area. In the meantime, many of our teens will spend this weekend at the Butt Foundation Camp at Leakey, in a spiritually-centered retreat with young Christians from around central and south Texas. (Special thanks to Paul and Laura Purswell for driving the church van, and for transporting the baggage!) February brings our turn to host the area "Sunday Night Live" assembly for our young people, as well as the opportunity to attend the Annual Shenandoah Lectures in San Antonio.
In March/April, we will have brothers John Moore, Ben Moseley, and Joseph Meador back for another excellent series of evangelistic lessons (the actual date is still uncertain). March also brings the climax of serious study efforts by some of our youth, as they will participate in the annual Southwest Bible Search in Austin. In April we will host the annual Areawide Singing. There are also plans to send at least one couple to Delta, Colorado for several days, to encourage the church there and help the brethren prepare for an evangelistic effort in the summer.
After a brief respite (in the month of May), June and July bring us to the summer bible camp sessions hosted by the Southwest/Austin and Pflugerville congregations. Many of our youth have benefited greatly from these weeks of concentrated bible study and Christian fellowship, as do our adults who serve as teachers and counselors. These summer months also bring us to the time of our projected evangelistic effort in Delta, Colorado, when we will try to have several couples/families there to
strengthen and encourage the church there. Late summer will also be the time we begin making firm preparations for this year’s Challenging the Church Study Series.
The fall months of September through November bring us a scheduled gospel meeting with brother Johnny Ramsey, as well as the possibility of a follow-up trip by one or two couples to Delta. There are also plans for a campaign effort in Monclova, Mexico in November; this effort would be greatly enhanced if we can have eight to ten MidTown members involved! These fall months are also the time when we need to complete our preparations for December’s Challenging the Church Study Series. This year’s series will feature lessons based in the very practical book of James, presented by three great and capable gospel preachers; Rick Brumback of Austin, H.D. Simmons of Portland, and Don Walker of San Antonio.
Brethren, these are just a very few of the works planned for the MidTown church this year. We will maintain the works being done in our bible class program, we will be adding some personal work studies, and the elders continue to actively search for ways to encourage spiritual growth and service for every member here. Please make the commitment to become more involved in the works of the church this year than you have ever been before! Together, we can accomplish great things in the Lord’s kingdom!
